National Vocation Awareness Week
11/06/2016 - 11/12/2016All Day
The Catholic Church in the United States will celebrate National Vocation Awareness Week, November 6-12. Sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops'(USCCB) Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations, this annual event is a special time for parishes to foster a culture of vocations for the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life and is designed to help promote vocation awareness and to encourage young people to ask the question: “To what vocation in life is God calling me?” Parish and school communities across the nation are encouraged to include, during the first week in November, prayer and special activities that focus on vocation awareness.
Pope Francis, in his homily at the final Mass of the 2016 World Youth Day in Krakow, encouraged the youth of the world to open their hearts to Jesus. “Don’t be afraid to say ‘yes’ to him with all your heart, to respond generously and to follow him!” said Pope Francis. “Don’t let your soul grow numb, but aim for the goal of a beautiful love which also demands sacrifice.”
Prayer for vocations is the responsibility of the entire Church. The prayer below may help you pray for vocations in our community.
Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You. Help us to grow in the Love and Service of our Church as we experience it today.
Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future.
Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ’s Mission of love and justice.
Bless the Church of the Diocese of San Diego by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people as Sisters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers.
Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call.
We ask this through our Lord. Amen.
